We welcome Jill Whitehead to speak this evening: The Dukes family lived in Jill’s house in Carshalton from 1946 to 1993, having arrived from Vienna in 1939/40 escaping the Nazis. They
They owned a successful agricultural foodstuffs company operating out of Bratislava, Vienna and Budapest pre -war, and their family members included an eminent Freudian psychologist. Jill looks at the family’s past life pre-WW2, how WW2 changed everything, and how Helen Dukes and her parents and cousin escaped to Britain and their very different lives post war in South London.
