The London Borough of Sutton has begun investigations at Carshalton Ponds after concerns over water loss.
A council spokesperson told Secret Carshalton: “Our initial investigations suggest that one of the underground plugs where the water flows is damaged.”
Further investigations will continue into next week.
What the exact role underground plugs play is unclear at the time of writing.
The spokesperson said the recent heavy rainfall was welcome, helping to maintain water levels and minimise the impact on wildlife.

The council is also liaising with local animal welfare charities, with notices around the ponds asking the public to report any wildlife in distress.
“Carshalton Ponds are well-loved by the Council and the local community and we will continue to work hard to find a long-term resolution to stop the ponds from losing water.”
A further update will be provided when more information becomes available.
