Some of Doyle’s best stories were written during the 1890s when he lived only a few miles away from Carshalton in South Norwood. Sherlock Holmes enthusiast Bernard Winchester will look at his life and works during this period in the context of his surroundings. Why did he come to the area and what was it like then?

Bernard is a retired lecturer with a particular interest in local history and railways.
