The Dan Forshaw Quartet’s John Coltrane 100 project is the result of Dan Forshaw’s long interest in, and study of Coltrane’s music. He will be exploring this legacy with works such as Mr PC, My Favourite Things and, of course, A Love Supreme, which capture the technical inventiveness and emotional depth of Coltrane’s music. As Dan himself says, ‘we’re not playing museum music, it’s living music being played by musicians now’, with respect for the original recordings matched with fresh improvisation. This will be an essential concert for those who are familiar with Coltrane’s music and a brilliant introduction for those less familiar with this astonishing work.
Dan Forshaw is a leading authority on Coltrane, as well as being a teacher and leading saxophone player, appearing at venues such as Pizza Express.
Chris Jerome (piano) is a stalwart of the UK jazz scene, playing with a wide variety of musicians including Courtney Pine.
Guy Dempsey (bass) and Lewis Isaacs (drums) are both past pupils of Dan’s who so impressed him that he invited them to be part of this quartet.
