We’ve had three heatwaves so far this summer, which for London means a run of 3 days of temperatures above 28 degrees Celsius (28°C).
According to Sutton and East Surrey Water, Bough Beech reservoir is 75% full. However, this accounts for a relatively small percentage of our water supply.
“About 85% of our water comes from groundwater sources, which recharge over the winter (usually from October to March) when there is less plant growth and evaporation.”
“Our water resources were able to recharge well at the beginning of winter, and we are in a relatively healthy position going into the summer, and we are not planning to introduce hosepipe bans.”
So, as of July 2025, things are looking reasonable. But of course, we still need to be conscious of the amount of water we use.
