Carshalton Artists Open Studios are a great opportunity to take a closer look at some of the historic private homes that are not usually open to the public. We’ve listed some interesting locations that are specifically open during the four days of Carshalton Artists Open Studios (CAOS), along with a few other historic places you may want to look out for if it’s your first visit to the area.
The open studios feature more than 80 artists and take place over the weekends of 27–28 June and 4–5 July, from 11am to 5pm. Opening times may vary at some venues.

10a West street, SM5 2QG
Beautiful wood fronted home, probably of mid-18th Century origin. Grade 2 listed. More on the property here

39 Westcroft Road, SM5 2TG
Possibly part of the Parkfields Mansion and outbuildings that stood at 37 Westcroft Road. The original building was dated circa 1785 and see if you can spot part of the old wall.

Gilmon house, 20 West Street, SM5 2QG
Thought to be the location of one of Carshalton’s long-lost pubs. Several architectural features may survive from that time – such as windows, doorways and flooring. More details here

London house, 42 West street, SM5 2PR
Another Grade 2 listed house, thought to be early 18th Century. Features a distinctive large bow window. Full history coming soon.

The Old Stables, Oaks Park, Croydon Lane SM7 3BA
One of the last remaining outbuildings connected to The Oaks mansion which gave its name to the famous horse race at the Epsom Derby.
The Old Chapel, Ecology Centre, Festival Walk, SM5 3NY
The land was owned by the church of England, and they built this as a small chapel. Now known as the garden hall.
Carshalton Water Tower, Pound St, SM5 3PN
Listed buildings with lovely views from the roof. Opening times may vary
Vellum Mill, 76a Mill Ln, SM5 2JR
An old industrial building that sits alongside the River Wandle at Butter Hill.
Little Holland House, 40 Beeches Ave, SM5 3LW
Arts and Crafts house offers incredible ornate detail, a must for art and design lovers. Only open on Sundays.
Honeywood Museum, Honeywood Walk, SM5 3NX
A picturesque spot in the heart of the village – tea room next door. Not open on last Sunday.
The Greyhound Inn, 2 High St, SM5 3PE
An old coaching inn offering a stylish stop off for a pint.
All Saints Church, High St, SM5 3AG
Carshalton’s oldest building is a must-see.
