*News* The Duke of Edinburgh visited YourSpace in Cheam on Saturday 26 July. Prince Edward has been the Patron of the London Gardens Society since 2022.
He met with garden volunteers, as well as the Alzheimer’s Support Group, Tennyson Care Home residents, DofE award participants, and others.
The YourSpace project opened in 2014, bringing an open and inclusive community garden to the area. It’s located on part of Seears Park, bequethed to the local authority by landowner John Seears and his wife Mary Ann in the 1930s.
YourSpace Sutton has twice been awarded the title of London’s Best Community Garden.
Prince Edward opened the Cryer theatre in Carshalton, back in 1991.
Lovely to meet him. He was very attentive to the various schemes and activities in Yourspace. It’s a shame they didn’t manage to get Zero Waste Sutton and Sutton Community Champions squeezed into the last picture. We’re just out of shot.
