The local elections on Thursday 7 May 2026 are for you to vote for the person you think best represents your concerns and issues in your road and immediate area, within the London Borough of Sutton.

They do not make decisions on:

  • national taxes (Income Tax, VAT)
  • NHS hospitals and doctors
  • immigration
  • defence or foreign policy
  • national laws (that’s Parliament)

 

There are 55 councillors that make up Sutton Council. There are 231 candidates vying for places across the borough, predominantly among:

  • Green Party
  • Liberal Democrats
  • Reform UK
  • Conservative Party
  • Labour Party

 

Sutton is made up of 20 wards. In Carshalton Central, for example, there are 16 candidates spread across 6 parties. The council is funded through council tax, government grants, and business rates.
