A refurbished Oaks Park Bakehouse and new visitor centre – winners of the Neighbourhood Fund

Sutton Council have just announced the winners of the 2024 Neighbourhood Fund consultation, and it’s fantastic to see budgets allocated to local improvements.

Refurbish the Oaks Park Bakehouse

With a funding of £25,000 the Friends of Oaks Park can finally look to develop the old Bakehouse (pictured above). The council states:

“Refurbish the Bakehouse of the old Oaks Mansion to preserve it as a heritage asset and turn it into a small information and visitor centre for the park. This would complement the Friends of Oaks Park’s work remarking the chalk outline of the mansion”

Sutton Ecology Centre Repair and Restoration of Pond-Dipping Platform

Just over £8,000 has been awarded to make urgent repairs for this much-loved area in Carshalton. It’s a location enjoyed by adults and children alike.

 

Butter Hill

Elm Ponds Desilting

The historic pond in Wallington will receive part-funding with an aim to getting the fountain working properly once more. The council states:

“To remove a large build up of silt from Elm Pond which will allow for two new pumps to be fitted (funded separately)”

 

The Grotto in Carshalton

Carshalton Park The Grotto Repairs

The Grotto in Carshalton Park will receive £5,500. The council states:

“Carefully remove graffiti from the Grade II Listed Grotto and repair a damaged section of brickwork”

The Grove Water Mill Replacement Railings

To continue to protect this historic monument, the council has awarded £4,500 and states:

“Replace broken wooden fence with two metre high railings”

 

Congratulations to everyone that has been awarded the funding they requested. The next funding round will begin in Spring 2025.
