CARSHALTON JAZZ PRESENTS - IAN SHAW & IAIN BALLAMY

‘An Adventurous Dream’, a celebration of the music of Billy Strayhorn and Duke Ellington with Ian Shaw & Iain Ballamy.

Ian Shaw is one of the most distinctive voices in British jazz. A multiple winner of BBC Jazz and Parliamentary Jazz awards for best vocalist, he has worked with a wide range of famous names, from Quincy Jones to Georgie Fame.

Iain Ballamy. Iain came to prominence with the ground-breaking Loose Tubes in the 1980s and has since worked with a wide range of bands, including Bill Bruford’s Earthworks, the trio Quercus with June Tabor and Huw Warren, and the Britten Sinfonia. He is famed for the beauty of his tone and flawless technique. He won the BBC Jazz award for innovation in 2001 and the Paul Hamlyn Composer’s award in 2007 and is a visiting professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music.

Ian and Iain will be accompanied by Barry Green (piano) and Dave Green (bass). Barry is noted for his ‘lyrical swing’ (John Fordham, the Guardian) and ‘real interaction with the vocals’ (Alyn Shipton, the Times), while Dave has worked with everyone from Charlie Watts to Humphrey Lyttleton and beyond.

This will be a great evening with original and exciting interpretations of jazz classics.

Our events at CryerArts are very popular, we encourage you to buy your tickets in advance from the CryerArts website or via the links provided. We cannot guarantee availability on the night, however, when space is available, we will continue to offer tickets on the door.

Tickets for CryerArts will be £18 in advance plus booking fee, cabaret table for 4 £80 in advance plus booking fee, with any remaining tickets available on the door for £20.

For concerts at CryerArts doors open at 7:00 pm with performances starting at 7:30. The Spotlight bar is open throughout the evening, with food being served before the show.

These events are aimed at a 16 plus audience.

Where there is availability, we now offer tickets on the door to students aged 16-18 for £10 with student / school ID.
