How things have changed – Carshalton High Street in 2008

*Historical* It was 17 years ago that the traditional high street was beginning to change, and these photos show a turning point.

The independent shoe shop had recently closed, but the greengrocers and butchers were still hanging on.

It’s important to note, there’s still many lovely local businesses in our high street, that are thriving and adapting to changing tastes.

The moan then was too many estate agents. However we have a too many coffee bars/cafe/restaurants now. Still miss the greengrocer there is a new pharmacy and just love Calladoodles. I like the Coop and Sainsbury’s but not much selection of fruit and veg in the latter. Sorry that forge area is redeveloped and that where Pinks gym used to be. There is a hairdresser and a barbers post office so probably it could be worse.
