The Old Forge – 2/6/2023 This was the original planning image for the new building by the car park in Carshalton High Street. Note the pitch of the roof, the arched windows, and how the final building has generally deviated from what was planned. As of today, there are still some planning concerns about how the building has not matched the o…Read MoreSecret Carshalton posted

It’s the little details that make up Carshalton, and we need to protect this at all costs. There’s railings that are hundreds of years old and their design and placement maintains the pretty place we see today. With increasing tarmacing across the area we are losing bits of identity. With the loss of the Fox and Hounds pub and ornate shop fronts…Read MoreSecret Carshalton posted

The site of the once much-loved and historic Fox and Hounds pub continues to be left to go derelict, having closed back in 2017. The original plans submitted were to demolish and build a square office block. These were of course declined. New plans were submitted and approved. I’m glad this group has been set up. I think it’s been a disgrace to allow this building to be left to fall apart plus it is an eyesore in the village.
With regard to the Fox & Hounds, it has certainly become an eyesore but does anyone know the truth of the situation? I heard that there are major problems with the foundations or structure of the building and no-one wants to touch it because it would be too expensive but I have no idea if this is correct …
Thanks for your comment. Yes, I have heard about the foundations. It has a very large cellar underneath and this is known to flood in heavy rain. I’m not clear from a structural point of view how this would effect options for keeping the existing building, or constructing a new one – as of course they both use foundations of some kind.
