At the corner of Manor Road North, Butter Hill and London Road, a once-scenic pond and fountain in the heart of old Wallington lies empty, as the funding pot for urgent repairs has run dry.
A great deal of hard work has gone into raising funds to bring this area back to life. A tender in April put the maximum figure required at £25–£30,000, but this hasn’t been enough to fully restore the fibreglass structure and surrounding brickwork — let alone bring the water feature back into operation.

Around 15 years ago, the fountain stood at twice the height shown in the picture above. It provided an impressive focal point and was loved by locals.
Every year since, it has fallen further into decline. A note from Sutton Council, pinned to the site in Wallington, reads: “An inspection confirmed that the liner damage is more extensive than initially anticipated.”

It goes on to say: “The fibreglass liner is failing in several areas due to age and vandalism,” and adds: “Water escaping the failed liner has caused damage to the surrounding brickwork.”
The council states that it is seeking additional funding.
Secret Carshalton would like to see this important location reinstated to its former glory, and preserved for future generations to enjoy. We’ll be keeping a close eye on developments. Could someone set up a crowd funder? Such a lovely spot
Obviously it would be great to have the fountain brought back to its former glory. obviously again if former authorities had done the appropriate amount of maintenance, there would not be the need to spend more money now. But considering what they waste money on, I think this would benefit the Sutton community.
