Tick Tock landmark at Sutton Railway Station

This modern clock is outside Sutton Railway Station in South London, and is one of the first things that greets you on arrival.

Perhaps you’ve never really paid much attention to it, but I think the clock looks rather striking against the backdrop of trees. So now it’s time to hear a little more about it.

The timepiece was unveiled in March 2015, reportedly costing £34,000. It was part of a million-pound station improvement. The clock was designed by a hip urban design company based in Hackney (now based in South London, SE1). The company is called We Made That, and they made this. So if you didn’t know, now you do.

If you were tasked with making a local landmark today, what would it be? Mine would be a public helter-skelter to slide down from one of those tall new buildings in Sutton town centre.
