This lovely image shows a timeless view from over 130 years ago. In the background is Queen’s Well house on Church Hill.
The house was named in honour of Ann Boleyn’s well, which still stands close by. Queen’s Well was demolished in 1963. As it was being taken down the true history of the house was uncovered. It was much older than previously thought, perhaps 17th century or earlier – but by then it was too late to save it.
