*Walks* This is a little bit further afield than our usual walks, but it really is worth the trip – the views at the Seven Sisters are breathtaking. These are a series of sea-eroded chalk cliffs on the English Channel coastline. They are part of the South Downs range of hills, situated in East Sussex.
The journey by car from Carshalton is about 1hr 30m, so somewhere to make a day of. There is a car park at Seven Sisters, but due to overcrowding, we park at the nearby Friston Forest Car Park on Litlington Road. There is a small charge.
The popular walk firstly takes you through trees, at the top of Westdean village. You then reach the small village of Friston. From here you take a path that leads you to open land, where you can make your way past fields of sheep to the cliffs themselves.
It’s quite steep and windy along the ridges of the cliffs, so dress well. You then make your way back inland and reach the visitors centre and cafe – well worth a stop for a tea and cake.
Then there is a final climb back to the car park.
There is also a bus service from Brighton Railway Station which runs every 20 minutes and takes just under an hour.
