A riotous, feel-good comedy musical with a legendary pedigree comes to the CryerArts Centre for one night only.
Originally written by “Rock and Roll’s Greatest Failure” John Otway and actor Paul Bradley (EastEnders, Holby City, The Young Ones), and first staged in its earliest form by the late Rik Mayall, Verbal Diary has been reimagined from the ground up by Tom Johnson for a brand-new generation.
The show follows hapless photographer Gordon, who starts keeping a diary to get his life on track. But when his mischievous housemates secretly read it and meddle in his every move, chaos erupts — leading to a hilariously anarchic journey of love, friendship, and self-discovery.
This special CryerArts performance will feature a live four-piece string section, including virtuoso Nick Pynn (renowned Stewart Lee collaborator), performing both classic Otway tracks and brand-new songs. To top it off, John Otway himself will be in attendance on the night.
Critically acclaimed and nationally celebrated:
⭐ “Absurd, anarchic and unmissable” – Bath Chronicle
⭐ “To see it is a must” – The Scotsman
⭐ “The hidden gem of the fringe” – Fringe Review
Don’t miss this brilliantly daft, heartfelt celebration of British comedy and music — for one night only!
