Historic Lingfield village in Surrey where even the library is dated 1474

*Walks* The charming old village of Lingfield in Surrey, is a lovely place to wander around and soak up the medieval atmosphere. It’s less than 40 minutes by car from Carshalton or you can get the train and change at Norwood Junction.

It’s so steeped in history that even the local community library is dated 1474 (pictured above). This is located in Vicarage Road.

In the centre of the village by the pond in Plaistow Street, is a rustic one-room prison built in 1773. The final incumbent was a poacher. This is grade 1 listed – in fact, Lingfield has three grade 1 properties.

There follows a selection of images from around the village.

The same day we enjoyed a trip to the private grounds of Lingfield’s old Workhouse, which had an open garden event. The location is also known as The Garth and the tile-hung house was built in 1729.
