London’s largest Lavender Field becomes International Attraction

🦋 On the southern tip of Greater London and touching the northern tip of Surrey is a dramatic lavender field that draws visitors from far and wide. It’s been a long time since going here, so I popped along to take a look.

Though the postal address is Banstead, Surrey – the field sits within the legislative boundary of Carshalton in the London Borough of Sutton.

With over 25 acres to enjoy, thousands of people visit from Saudi Arabia, China, Japan, India and many more countries around the world – to experience the colour and scents, and capture an Instagram classic.

Mayfield Lavender was set up by Lorna and Brendan Maye, and opened to the public for the first time in 2006. It now opens every day during the flowering season, each year from June to August. It has a pop-up shop and cafe on site where you can enjoy Lavender Cream Teas and pick up lavender-scented soaps and gifts.

Secret Carshalton took a look around and we’ll be sharing more photos here soon…

Got anything to add? Please leave a comment below. In the current map produced by the UK Boundary Commission showing the border of the London Borough of Sutton, this area falls under the Carshalton South and Clockhouse district – though understandably many still like to think of this area as Surrey, given it had been that way for 100s of years.
