Burton is a menswear store that started out in 1903, in Chesterfield, south of Sheffield. Following national expansion in the 1920s, this particular branch in Sutton was likely designed by in-house architect Harry Wilson, employed from 1923.

The building dates between 1901 and 1910 and the tall stone facade was most likely added later, designed by Harry Wilson.
Burton were known to look for prominent corner plots to develop, the best way to catch the attention of passing shoppers. The majority of their stores were designed in a house style.

Lithuanian-born Monty died in 1952. The store still operates online.
The building is at number 83-87 High Street on the corner of St Nicholas Road.
