It’s a rare survivor of an original suburban mansion house. Many were pulled down in the 1960s.
Brandries Hill House was built in the early 1700s and purchased by Francis Baring circa 1790. He founded Barings Bank, which went on to be the world’s oldest merchant bank, until its infamous collapse in 1995. Read more about that here

The old house has now been turned into flats, and is packed in by a housing estate, but a garden wall and parts of the stables survive, amongst the newer buildings. Read more about that here

The house has an interesting history, once housing refugees from the Spanish Civil War circa 1936.
Photos of the interior appear to show that some original features have survived. Inside are ornate Adams-style fireplaces and ceilings – an expensive 18th-century neoclassical style of interior design using intricate plasterwork. These are thought to have been commissioned by Francis Baring.
