Hidden Building at Sutton Ecology Centre that used to be a Chapel

This mini historical fact is, as Sandi Toksvig might say, quite interesting.

If you find yourself wandering around Sutton Ecology Centre in Carshalton you’ll come across this little building.

I’d thought about the windows in the past and considered the purpose of the place – and have just discovered it was once a Chapel.

Southwark Diocese Chapel Carshalton

Southwark Diocesan Carshalton

The house and grounds, for a while, were owned by the Church of England for the Southwark Diocesan House and St Saviours College (1921 – 1944). The purpose-built chapel is tucked away behind The Lodge (the name of the large building, pictured above).

If you’re wondering what’s inside – sadly no religious artifacts remain.
