This mini historical fact is, as Sandi Toksvig might say, quite interesting.
If you find yourself wandering around Sutton Ecology Centre in Carshalton you’ll come across this little building.
Claim this banner space for your businessI’d thought about the windows in the past and considered the propose of the place – and have just discovered it was once a Chapel.
The house and grounds, for a while, were owned by the Church of England for the Southwark Diocesan House and St Saviours College (1921 – 1944). The purpose-built chapel is tucked away behind The Lodge (the name of the large building, pictured above).
If you’re wondering what’s inside – sadly no religious artifacts remain.

Notes from SC Social Media
“it was used as a team office and not sure it would have been recognisable as a Chapel except for the size inside! The corridor between the 2 buildings was awful freezing in winter and boiling in Summer….actually the same as the Chapel 🤭”
“it was used by the Youth Justice team when I first worked there in 1994. There was a pool table there for young people. Then it got turned into office for the Children with Disabilities Team. Do you remember the stories about the whole building being haunted? Wonder if the new residents have noticed anything strange? Apart from the price of the new apartments!”
“There was a story about workers who were in one evening putting down new flooring hearing or seeing something that freaked them out”
“Yes it is haunted. A young woman has been seen looking out of the very top window of the Lodge. She is thought to have been a servant.”
